With over 35 years in food service, Chef Don Durley has been tantalizing Marquette area taste buds since 1983. Opened in April of 2006 is Lagniappe Cajun Creole Eatery. Six month's later came the in house VooDoo Bar. Since that time a standard of quality and service unsurpassed has been the basis for our authentic southern eatery. Stepping into Lagniappe is like stepping out of Marquette and into Louisiana. Every menu item and ingredient is made from scratch and in house, with the exception of ice cream, and we're working on that! The myth that all Cajun food is spicy, is just that, a myth! Here we cook with spice for flavor, not for heat. We do feature authentic Louisiana culinary classics but thats just a part of our current 85 item menu. It's the passion of the Lagniappe krewe for how we do what we do that's built the reputation we enjoy! We're very proud to say we have regulars from across the country and other nations and in particular have never failed to wow a visitor from Louisiana. In the summer of 2008 Lagniappe expanded by aquiring open retail space located at 143 Washington street, directly above our southern eatery. We envisioned dividing the space with the back being expanded kitchen area and the front half someday being a retail space. In October of 2009 Lagniappe opened the Gris Gris Specialty Shop.
Gris Gris, pronounced ( gree-gree ), is voo doo terminology of African origin. Usually refering to a gris gris bag which is a small bag in which items of positive, lucky or spell in nature are placed. The bag is taken and kept with you to bring good things your way. Stop by and check out our little shop and you should have no problem taken something good with you!
We offer for purchase our recipe, in house made specialty meats that were once purchased and shipped from Louisiana, mainly Andouille, Chaurice, Boudin, Tasso and Smoked Sausage. The Gris Gris Specialty Shop offers our meats, pakaged foods, favors, gifts, collectables and trinkets featuring Upper Michigan and Louisiana. Among our current offerings are over 120 different hot sauces, 75+beads, hand made Voo Doo dolls, Louisiana music, artists work, Lagniappe apparel, spice,food and gift products from Louisiana.
As our offerings increase we are excited to continuously be bringing something new, different and unique to Upper Michigan and downtown Marquette!
